Under the Patronage of HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein, AdventureNEXT Near East 2019 Conference Starts today
AQABA, April 1 — Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah, the AdventureNEXT Near East 2019 (ANNE) conference starts in Aqaba today. The event brings together travel agencies, tour guides, hospitality specialists and investors from Jordan, Europe and other countries. The three-day event organized by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) is co-sponsored by the European Union (EU), which acts as the Destination Stewardship Partner, the Jordan Tourism Board, the Host Destination, and the Palestine Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities as a Gold Partner.
The conference, supported by the EU’s Jordanian Action for the Development of Enterprises (JADE) project, is taking place at the Hyatt Regency and provides members of the adventure and experiential tourism industry an opportunity to network with one another, form business links, and ultimately, bring more tourists to Jordan in this booming tourism niche.
The conference is hosting dozens of Jordanian small and medium size enterprises, and forging connections with international investors. Additionally, various startups supported by the European Union are also participating within a tourism innovation booth, which will showcase the latest and brightest ideas and developments in technology that support the tourism industry.
Startups include Hidden Flights, Jasmine Travel, Viavii, Aqabawi, and Visit North Jordan. These startups are receiving support from incubators and accelerators across Jordan, including iPARK (Aqaba and Amman), Shamal Start and Oasis 500.
By supplementing Jordanian tourism and finding solutions to long-standing issues through innovation, these startups are getting noticed by those in attendance and will continue to do so for the remainder of the event.
“Through this conference and working with our partners, linkages and deals will be forged between Jordanian, European, and international operators in the tourism sector. This will have a positive impact on local communities, especially in remote areas. We have already started to witness results from the Jordan Trail Association and other initiatives which we will continue to support and expand,” said H.E. Andrea Matteo Fontana, Ambassador of the EU to Jordan.
Established in 1990, the ATTA is seen as a leading organization for the adventure travel industry around the world. It currently serves more than 1,300 members in 100 countries worldwide, with a constituency made up of tour operators, tourism boards, specialty agents, and more. ANNE 2019 is one of ATTA’s annual events that provide a marketplace for travel agencies and specialists to find buyers, clients and more.
“With three successive events, we’ve established Jordan as a prime destination for adventure and experience travelling. We can hope that our continued dedication to this growing industry will help Jordan.” said Manal Kelig, ATTA executive director.
The region continues to see an uptake in global tourism and adventure trade. At AdventureNEXT Near East 2019, the EU is working with all market players to enhance business opportunities and support private sector development in Jordan. Our partners include business associations such as the Jordan Trail Association (JTA) and Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA), incubators, accelerators and startups, Small, Medium Enterprises, and financial institutions. We also work with European business service providers, distributors, and suppliers.
The Jordanian Action for the Development of Enterprises (JADE) is a three-year project and part of a broader EU programme to support private sector development in Jordan. The JADE Project targets supporting 100 SMEs and 60 innovative startups with development opportunities that would increase exports, maximise productivity and create new employment opportunities for Jordanians. Four leading incubators located across Jordan are supporting entrepreneurs and startups in a range of fields, and the JADE Project’s support is ongoing with opportunities to apply online.
